We can all probably agree that moving our belongings from one place to the next is the easy part of the moving process, however, the exhausting part is packing your items up.  Have a game plan ready of what you will need to ensure your moving experience will go as smoothly as possible.  Listed below are a few things that will make your packing experience less of a headache.

  • Bubble Wrap:  This is going to be your best friend preventing an item from possibly getting broken.  It's always a good item to wrap your items with the bubble side facing inside.  Use larger bubbles when wrapping heavier items such as sculptures or appliances and for glasses and plates use smaller bubbles.
  • Boxes:  Keep in mind not all boxes are the same.  A good rule of thumb is to gather boxes of all shapes of sizes before you start packing.  Some are made for storing lots of items while others may not have that same sturdiness. Remember that overcrowding your boxes can make them hard to transfer and could damage the items in the box. It may be a good item to keep an inventory of your items to know how many boxes you may need.
  • Packing Tape:  This would seem like a self-explanatory necessity when it comes to packing, but don't be fooled.  The cheap tape has poor sticking strength and cannot last for a long period.  We suggest going ahead and spending a little extra on your packing tape to be on the safe side.  To save time and money, go ahead and purchase your tape in large quantities so you do not run out.  Purchase a taping gun to speed up your packing experience.
  • Permanent Markers:  The best way to ensure you are staying organized is to label EVERYTHING!  The best way to do that is by using permanent markers so there are no smudging or water marks that can come off your boxes. It's a good idea to label all sides of your boxes so that every angle can be seen when the box is stacked around other items.
  • Packing Paper:  Packing paper is a great option for filling up space around items to prevent them from shifting. It can be used as a filler or a wrap. Bubble wrap can serve as the same purpose, but packing paper is less expensive and takes up less space.
  • Furniture Pads and Moving Blankets:  No one wants to find their expensive furniture with holes in them at the end of a move.  Use large padding or blankets to prevent big scratches or holes.
  • Cords and Ropes:  Have these two things handy and plenty of them on the day you will be packing things down.  If left unfastened, your items can move around causing them to break or become damaged.
