Packing a Unit Successfully

Label your boxes. When using self storage, chances are you don't plan on needing those packed items for at least a couple months. Even if you think you'll remember that coffee pot is packed in the small brown box in the far right-hand upper corner, you'd be surprised how easy it will be to forget once everything is sealed up and out of your sight. Labeling your boxes is going to make things much easier and helpful for when you need to run in your unit and grab something.
Pack strategically. You never know when you're going to need access to the things in your unit, so organize everything that makes it easy to go in and grab! Things you might consider a necessity and will need first, store in the front of your unit and things you can live without for a while in the back. Also, think vertically. Organize your things in a vertical position instead of crowding around the bottom. Place heavier items at the bottom of your surface and make sure to leave a pathway from the front of the unit to the back so no item is out of reach.
Don't leave items unprotected. Prevent damage by properly packing and wrapping your items. Use blankets or moving pads to move any furniture in your unit. Try to stay away from plastic when wrapping because it can trap moisture which results in mildew and mold. Fragile items should be carefully wrapped in packing paper and stored in a way they cannot move around easily.
No perishable items, please. Packing anything in your unit that could spoil can potentially lead to bad odors. Rotten food or plants could attract rodents and bugs, and NO ONE wants to walk into their unit to that.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Loading and unloading heavy items can be a difficult task to tackle alone, so try to plan ahead and ask a family member or friend for some help. It's always a good item to have an extra set of hands when it comes to moving!
